Antique AETCO Geometric Cocoa & Umber Hearth — Limited Series

$1,450.00

Description

A complete geometric hearth from the American Encaustic Tile Company’s Limited series — a commission dating from the late nineteenth century in Zanesville, Ohio. This hearth forms a luminous, architectural composition in tones of cocoa, umber, tan, and buff, each tile pressed and fired with precision. Salvaged intact from one of the original seven fireplaces of a Zanesville manor built between 1880 and 1890.

The layout measures approximately 18 × 60 inches, fully preserved and composed entirely of original tiles from the same installation. The color is born not from heavy glaze but from the clay itself — warm umber, buff, and cocoa emerging directly from the earth and the fire that shaped it. The cocoa tiles bear the impressed A.E.T.CO LIMITED mark on the reverse, denoting a restricted architectural production run reserved for commissioned interiors, 1885–1895.
