Antique AETCO Cobalt & Café Mosaic Hearth — Zanesville c.1890
$2,450.00
Description
A full architectural hearth mosaic by the American Encaustic Tile Company (A.E.T. Co. LIMITED) of Zanesville, Ohio. This luminous geometric composition, crafted around 1890–1905, unites cobalt brilliance with café-au-lait warmth.
The layout is complete and beautifully proportioned: octagonal tan field tiles punctuated by cobalt diamonds, bordered in rich chocolate brown, and finished with an outer band of blue-and-white foliate diamonds — a textile in fired clay. On the reverse, the A.E.T. Co. LIMITED stamp authenticates a genuine production from the company’s early export and exhibition division.
Approx. 60+ x 18 in overall layout; complete hearth set with field, border, and foliate band; cobalt blue, café-au-lait tan, and chocolate brown. Structurally complete; minor staining and wear consistent with age. Salvaged from an 1890 Zanesville residence near the original A.E.T. Co. works.
