Antique AETCO Flame Glaze Surround & Hearth — 192 Tiles

$3,950.00

Description

An embered surface, alive with green, olive, and smoldered russet — a glaze that moves like fire under glass.

This architectural set from the American Encaustic Tile Company forms a complete fireplace surround with a matching hearth, all rendered in AETCO’s rare flame glaze, one of the most expressive surface experiments of the late 19th and early 20th century. The tiles bloom with unpredictable waves of copper-reactive green over deep earth-brown fields, shifting like moss over stone or firelight over aged wood. Each tile is slightly different; the glaze behaves like something alive.

Installed, the surround becomes a frame; the matching hearth a pool of embered color. A high-fire, copper- and iron-reactive glaze produced in small, inconsistent batches at the height of the Arts & Crafts movement. Total: 192 full tiles + 20–30 extras (approx. 9 sq ft) — 96 tiles at 6×1.5 in and 96 at 3×1.5 in. Staged as a 42×36 in surround with a 60×12 in hearth. A complete surround with matching hearth in this glaze is almost never available on the market.
