Pewabic Pottery Year of the Rooster Zodiac Tile — Aqua Glaze, 6×6
$150.00
Description
A deep aqua-turquoise glaze pools and breaks across this tile, darkening in the recesses and skimming pale over the high points so the whole surface reads as moving water. At the center, a rooster coils within a beaded ring, its body and tail dissolving into a swirl of scrollwork. Pewabic Pottery has worked in clay on Detroit’s east side since 1903, founded by Mary Chase Perry Stratton and still firing in the same National Historic Landmark studio. The rooster is one of the figural designs Pewabic later retired; this one carries the Pewabic backstamp dated 2004. Size 6 x 6 in; marked and dated; sound throughout with strong, even glaze. A retired Pewabic figural in a strong aqua glaze — the combination collectors of this pottery look for.
