Description

A rare and unusually elegant tile set salvaged from the formal parlor of a 1912 Arts & Crafts coal baron’s mansion in Parkersburg, West Virginia, produced by the American Encaustic Tile Company (AETCO). Each tile is glazed in a softly marbled ivory smoke finish — a chalk-pale ground veiled in delicate washes of celadon green, rose ash, and ghosted lavender, with fine antique crazing; painterly and serene, as though ink and light were trapped under glass. Includes 58 long tiles (1.5 x 6 in) and 49 short (1.5 x 3 in) — 107 total, suitable for a complete or extra-large fireplace surround. Matching full surround sets of this size and provenance are extraordinarily rare.
