Antique AETCO Roman Soldier Figural Panel — Original Oak Frame, c.1905
$3,500.00
Description
A young Roman soldier reclines on a tessellated mosaic ground in deep rose and oxblood majolica, his helmet and shield set at his feet. This is a complete, intact figural presentation panel as it left the American Encaustic Tiling Company factory in Zanesville, Ohio more than a hundred and twenty years ago — center tile, surrounding field tiles, carved oak frame, and original hardware, all original to one another. Documented in AETCO’s 1905 artistic tile catalog as pattern 053-042, “Roman soldier, 18 x 6 in.” The brass screws at each tile intersection are the factory’s original mounting method for framed presentation panels. Figural tile 18×6 in; overall framed approx. 41×22 in; soft mauve-rose majolica with original all-over crackle; carved oak frame with original finish and hardware. Completely intact — no breaks, losses, chips, or restoration. A documented Zanesville piece in original condition, matched to its catalog page.
