Antique Kensington Majolica Tiles — Six 3×6 in, c.1885–1895

Description

A set of six 3 x 6 inch Kensington Art Tile Company tiles. In 1881 the Hatt brothers established a tile works in Newport, Kentucky; taken over by investors in 1885 and renamed the Kensington Art Tile Company. During its short tenure as a maker of dust-pressed art tiles, its combination of portraits and floral interpretations was most impressive, owing to the artistic talents of Herman Mueller and Mary Louise McLaughlin, among others. A handsome small grouping of marked Kensington art tile from the golden age of American tilemaking.
