Antique Providential Tile Works Panel — Turquoise-Aquamarine, Trenton NJ, 8 Tiles

Description

A rare soft turquoise-aquamarine that leans blue, pooling deepest in the fluted channels and lifting pale across the raised ribbon and bead; a fine crazing runs the whole surface. Neoclassical in vocabulary: a ribbon threads in flowing S-curves through graduated beads over a fluted ground, framed with egg-and-dart and beading. Providential Tile Works of Trenton, New Jersey; impressed mark PROVIDENTIAL TILE WORKS, TRENTON N J, Design C 417. Eight tiles, 6 x 6 in, configuring as a rectangular panel; circa 1890; period crackle throughout; marked, period, and uncommon in this blue.
