Antique Austro-Hungarian Stove Tile — Chestnut Art Nouveau Relief, Pressburg

$350.00

Description

At the close of the 19th century, Austro-Hungarian tile stoves became canvases for Art Nouveau’s curving lines. This large-format ceramic tile, purchased in Bratislava (Pressburg) in 1990 and cast decades earlier, sweeps a chestnut glaze over elegant tulip-scroll relief, the form catching and releasing light as it once did on the warm face of a tiled stove. Approx. 9 x 8 in; historic kiln-fired construction; excellent condition for age with minor edge wear. An elegant artifact of the Austro-Hungarian era.
