Description

A bold four-tile medallion produced by the United States Encaustic Tile Company (USETCO) in the late 19th century, molded in deep relief with a wreath of maple leaves radiating around a central band of rosettes. Finished in a complex blush-toned Plumfield glaze — rose ash and terra umber shifting with light from mauve velvet to oxidized cherrywood. Forms a symmetrical 12 x 12 inch medallion; complete 4-tile set, each 6 x 6 in; USETCO, c.1890s. A rare matched set and a dramatic visual anchor.
